El Principado de Cataluña fue la entidad política[1] que existió durante gran parte de la Edad Media y de la Edad Moderna en el territorio correspondiente a la actual comunidad autónoma española de Cataluña y al actual departamento francés de los Pirineos Orientales, salvo la comarca de la Fenolleda. Dejó de existir como entidad política con los Decretos de Nueva Planta. La expresión el principado se sigue usando hoy en día para referirse a Cataluña, especialmente cuando contrasta con otros territorios de habla catalana[cita requerida].
