El antiguo municipio de Altron era un término municipal de la comarca del Pallars Sobirà que fue incorporado en 1976 al término de Sort junto con Enviny y Llessui, que habían sido añadidos en 1970, con el fin de formar el actual término municipal de Sort.
El municipio de Altron fue creado en 1812 a partir de las disposiciones de la Constitución de Cádiz y se mantuvo independiente hasta su incorporación a Sort, en 1976. También fueron creados en 1812 los ayuntamientos de Bernui y Ausi, todos ellos incorporados a Rialb en 1847. También comprendía el antiguo pueblo de Espós, despoblado desde finales de la Edad moderna.
