El lago Saimaa es el mayor lago de Finlandia y el quinto de Europa, con una superficie de 4.377 km².[1] Está ubicado en la parte sureste del país y en sus orillas hay varias ciudades notables, como Lappeenranta, Imatra, Savonlinna y Mikkeli. El lago desagua principalmente a través del río Vuoksi, que desemboca en el lago Ladoga, hoy en día situado completamente en Rusia.
