Construido en el siglo XIV, el castillo del Fuerte es uno de los raros ejemplos de edificios de esta época en el norte de Lozère. Fue habitada por un miembro de la familia Apcher, una de las baronías que compartían el Gévaudan durante la Edad Media.
El edificio es de planta casi cuadrada y tiene tres pisos, rematados por un parapeto mecanizado. Aunque el castillo ha sufrido pocas transformaciones, su arquitectura actual data de los siglos XVI o XVII. Los edificios se añadieron en el siglo XVII. Además, dos torres circulares flanquean la fachada sur, que tiene dos torres de vigilancia con ménsulas en sus esquinas. Las fachadas están perforadas con ventanas en cruz. Por último, la puerta de entrada está repujada y tiene un frontón interrumpido. Una de las salas interiores está catalogada como Monumento Histórico por sus decoraciones pintadas, mientras que las fachadas están catalogadas.
