La empresa fue fundada en 1811 por Charles Gabriel de Cazanove. Fue su hijo Charles Nicolas quien hizo crecer la empresa hasta convertirla en una importante casa de champán. Tras varias adquisiciones (por ejemplo, Martini, Moët - Hennessy), la empresa pasó en 2004 a manos de la firma Rapeneau (que también posee Champagne Mansard Baillet y Champagne G.H. Martel & Co.).
