El pabellón deportivo recupera su función original.
Se trata de una reestructuración completa de las instalaciones, con el retroceso de la zona de juego al nivel del suelo original para recuperar las 5 primeras filas de gradas y ganar 650 asientos adicionales (capacidad máxima en configuración de baloncesto: 2700 asientos).
En el sótano se construirán vestuarios con instalaciones sanitarias y locales dedicados a las actividades deportivas. En total, el Palacio de los Deportes representa un espacio de 5300 m2.
El planteamiento arquitectónico consiste en resaltar el esqueleto de la estructura formado por pórticos de hormigón de más de 6 metros de altura.
