El sitio de Combes des sources du Tarn está situado en la ladera sur del Monte Lozère, al oeste del Pic Cassini, en la zona central del Parque Nacional de las Cevenas.
En las zonas de depresión, en contacto con los arroyos y manantiales, se han identificado un mínimo de 62 humedales para una superficie total de casi 13 hectáreas. La mayoría de estos humedales son turberas. Su presencia atestigua unas condiciones ecológicas particulares (clima frío y humedad con un balance hídrico positivo).
Estos entornos, resultantes de las últimas glaciaciones, son extremadamente frágiles y sensibles a cualquier perturbación de su funcionamiento hidrológico.
