Rodeada de bosques y dominada por imponentes muros de arenisca rosa, Graufthal debe su fama a las curiosas viviendas trogloditas que se refugian al pie de los acantilados, casas únicas en Alsacia
La roca sirve de suelo, pared y techo, sólo las fachadas azules fueron construidas por el hombre.
Estas pintorescas casas desprenden un encanto especial que los caminantes pueden descubrir durante la visita. Las condiciones de vida en estas casas, que estuvieron habitadas hasta 1958, sorprenderán a muchos visitantes.
No se pierda los restos de la antigua abadía de San Gangolphe y la exposición "Una abadía del pasado" en las Maisons des Rochers.
