La Academia Naval Real fue una instalación establecida en 1733 en el astillero de Portsmouth para entrenar oficiales de la Royal Navy. Las intenciones de los fundadores eran proporcionar un medio alternativo para reclutar oficiales y ofrecer formación, educación y admisión estandarizadas. En 1806 se renombró como el Colegio Naval Real y en 1816 se convirtió en el Colegio Naval Real y la Escuela de Arquitectura Naval. Fue cerrada como establecimiento de formación para ingresantes oficiales en 1837.
