Esquilache es un municipio situado en el territorio de la provincia de Catanzaro, en Calabria . De esta ciudad recibe su nombre el golfo de Squillace. En diciembre de 2019 tiene una población estimada de 3564 habitantes.[3]
Es el lugar donde se ubicaba la antigua colonia griega de Escilacio o Esciletio , fundada, según una tradición mencionada por Estrabón, por los atenienses que llegaron después de la Guerra de Troya bajo el mando de Menesteo. En un principio era parte de los dominios de Crotona pero Dionisio I de Siracusa decretó que su territorio pasase a formar parte de Locros Epicefirios.[4]
