La tranquila ciudad de Aquileia fue una vez un destino popular para muchos que buscaban acceso al mar. Se dice que los primeros apóstoles de Jerusalén aterrizaron aquí antes de difundir el cristianismo por Europa. La Calle Ámbar, que pertenece a la red de caminos romanos, termina en Aquileia. Además de las ruinas en Aquileia, que han quedado a la vista de todos, la ciudad también exhibe el fabuloso mosaico en la Basílica de Aquileia. El mosaico data del siglo II a.C. y se considera el mosaico de piso italiano temprano más importante.
