Oristán es una ciudad de Italia situada en la isla de Cerdeña, capital de la provincia homónima.
El nombre proviene del latín Aurum Stanis que quiere decir 'Estanque de Oro'. Ello se debe a la cercanía al estanque de Santa Giusta, zona apta para la pesca, al sur de la ciudad. Uno de los productos más conocidos de la zona es la bottarga di muggine, el "oro de Oristán". Este producto, único en Italia, es constituido por huevas de mujol, puede alcanzar un precio alto y es bastante difícil de encontrar fuera de la isla. Oristán se encuentra en el área septentrional de la llanura del Campidano, al borde del golfo de Oristán.
