La Basílica de Lidwina y Nuestra Señora del Rosario ha sido el principal lugar de veneración de Santa Lidwina desde 1969. Muchos de sus relicarios se encuentran en esta iglesia. En el pasado, la mayor parte de sus huesos se guardaron en el Carmelo de Bruselas. Santa Lidwina nació el 18 de marzo de 1380. Cuando se cayó mientras patinaba y se rompió las costillas a la edad de 15 años, sus heridas se infectaron y aparecieron crecimientos cancerosos en su cuerpo. Esto también provocó ceguera en un ojo. Vivió solo de manzanas y vino. Murió 19 años después de su accidente. Se le atribuye el don de la bilocación (estar presente en dos lugares al mismo tiempo). En 1418, estalló una importante epidemia de peste, que también se atribuyó a su intervención. Su casa también fue salvada durante el gran incendio de Schiedam en 1428. En su día de fiesta, el 14 de abril, se visitan los lugares donde trabajó en Schiedam, así como el lugar de su caída en el hielo.
