Se encuentra al noreste de Nes y Oosternijkerk, al noroeste de Lioessens y al oeste de Paesens. El núcleo del pueblo se sitúa en la duna marina del mar de Wadden. El pueblo, junto con el pueblo de Paesens, forma una sola comunidad bajo el nombre de Paesens-Moddergat. Originalmente, los dos pueblos estaban separados por el agua de Paesens; originalmente un brazo de mar que desembocaba en el mar de Wadden. El agua está muerta en 2019 en la nueva construcción del pueblo doble. La separación entre los dos pueblos se forma en la nueva construcción por las calles Kokentún y De Wiel, siendo Kokentún ubicada en Paesens y De Wiel en Moddergat.
