El 1 de enero de 2021, Giesbeek contaba con 2.695 habitantes. Giesbeek estuvo directamente al lado del río IJssel hasta 1969. Hoy en día, esta parte del IJssel se ha convertido, debido a adaptaciones en el río y la extracción de arena, en parte de la zona recreativa Rhederlaag. Esto ha proporcionado a Giesbeek amplias oportunidades recreativas al alcance de la mano, como diversas playas de arena y un puerto deportivo con rampa para barcos. Desde las adaptaciones, el IJssel fluye alrededor de la zona recreativa.
