El pueblo fue mencionado por primera vez en 1281 como Gerslach y significa zanja cónica. Solía tener una iglesia, pero fue demolida en 1735, y solo queda el campanario. En 1840, tenía una población de 146 personas. Antes de 1934, Gersloot era parte del municipio de Aengwirden.
