El edificio fue diseñado originalmente como iglesia de sala, en 1926 se amplió con un transepto. El diseño es del arquitecto Lammert Reitsma. Desde la fusión entre reformados y gerefornados, la iglesia lleva el nombre de Goede Herderkerk.
Ulrum fue el lugar donde Hendrik de Cock comenzó la Separación en 1834. La iglesia reformada en Ulrum se construyó poco después de la reunión en 1892 de la Separación y la Doleancia.
