Altweerterheide es una aldea ubicada al suroeste de la ciudad neerlandesa de Weert. Altweerterheide es el lugar situado más al oeste en Limburgo neerlandés: está a 3,8 km de Bélgica. El pueblo debe su nombre a la zona de bosques, pantanos y brezos en el suroeste de Weert. Alt significa viejo, Weerter proviene de la ciudad de Weert y heide de los terrenos de brezo; traducido literalmente, sería Viejo Weert en el brezo. La explotación de la zona alrededor de Altweerterheide comenzó recién a principios del siglo veinte. Esto llevó a la construcción de varias granjas en la zona. En las cercanías existía una capilla de 1723. Más tarde, surgió un verdadero núcleo habitacional con la iglesia de madera de 1925 como punto central.
