Abrantes es una ciudad portuguesa perteneciente al distrito de Santarém, región Centro y comunidad intermunicipal de Medio Tejo, con cerca de 18 600 habitantes. Pertenecía antiguamente a la provincia de Ribatejo, y aún es considerada como una localidad ribatejana.Es sede de un municipio con 713,43 km² de área y 42 235 habitantes , subdividido en 13 freguesias. La densidad demográfica es de 59,2 hab/km². Los municipios y límites al norte corresponden a la Vila de Rei, Sardoal y Mação, al este por Gavião, al sur por Ponte de Sor y al oeste por Chamusca, Constância, Vila Nova da Barquinha y Tomar.
