La batalla de Adrianópolis fue un enfrentamiento armado que se libró el 9 de agosto de 378 d. C. en las llanuras al noroeste de la ciudad romana de Adrianópolis . En ella se enfrentaron las fuerzas de Fritigerno, jefe de los tervingios, y el ejército del Imperio romano de Oriente comandado por el propio Emperador Flavio Julio Valente , quien murió en la batalla y cuyo ejército fue aniquilado.[19]
El desarrollo de esta batalla se conoce en detalle gracias al relato de dos historiadores romanos contemporáneos: Amiano Marcelino y Paulo Orosio .
