Barafu Hut es el último campamento antes de la cumbre en estos senderos. Se encuentra a una altitud de 4646m. Hay una buena vista de la cima, que ahora parece muy cercana.
No hay más estructuras que una cabaña de guardabosques y dependencias . Barafu significa "hielo" en swahili y también hace frío aquí debido al viento. Hay poca o nada de agua aquí. La única agua disponible se utiliza para cocinar o beber y la traen los porteadores.
El camping es muy rocoso y tiene una fuerte pendiente. Se sube entre las tiendas.
Desde Barafu Hut, la mayoría de las subidas a la cumbre comienzan alrededor de la medianoche para estar en la cima al amanecer, ya que la caminata dura entre 6 y 7 horas .
