El río Dniéster o Dniester es un río de Europa Oriental que discurre por Ucrania y Moldavia hasta desembocar en el mar Negro. Tiene una longitud de 1352 km y drena una cuenca de 72 100 km².
El nombre dniéster contiene el hidrónimo indoeuropeo *danu- 'agua corriente, río' muy común en Europa oriental , por lo que el nombre original del río en escito-sarmático puede reconstruirse como *dan-stur.
