El USS Long Beach fue un crucero de la Armada de los Estados Unidos. Fue el primer buque de superficie propulsado por energía nuclear.[1] Fue además el buque de guerra estadounidense con una batería compuesta totalmente por misiles guiados.[1]
La construcción del USS Long Beach inició el 2 de diciembre de 1957. Estaba a cargo de Bethlehem Steel Company Shipyard, en Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts. Se botó el barco al agua el 14 de julio de 1959. Entró en servicio el 9 de septiembre de 1961 con el capitán Eugene P. Wilkinson en el comando.[2][3]
