Este busto de Luis Álvarez Cruz fue realizado por el artista Enrique Cejas Zald var (1915-1986).
Luís Álvarez Cruz (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, 1904-1971) estuvo vinculado desde muy temprana edad al ambiente literario de su ciudad natal. Asistió habitualmente a las reuniones del poeta Manuel Verdugo, donde destacó por su estilo regionalista, modernista y lírico.
Tras residir un tiempo en Madrid, residió permanentemente en su ciudad natal, donde fue presidente del Ateneo y Orfeón La Paz, y miembro del Instituto de Estudios Canarios.
Trabajó como periodista en los diarios de Tenerife (1925-1936), fue corresponsal de prensa, radio y televisión y escribió miles de artículos, entrevistas, reportajes, informativos, etc. La parte más destacable de su actividad periodística se encuentra en su libro: Luis Álvarez Cruz, cien años de un periodosta (Luis Álvarez Cruz, cien años de periodista ).
Ha obtenido una treintena de premios , entre ellos el Primer Premio de las Cajas de Ahorros de España y la Estrella de Oro de los Juegos Florales de Barcelona.
