Les communes de Merelbeke, Gavere, Melle, Sint-Lievens-Houtem et Oosterzele font partiellement partie du pays de Rode.
Avec le nom 'Rodeland', on préserve la mémoire de l'industrie de la brique, qui est aujourd'hui endormie mais qui était autrefois si importante et caractéristique dans cette région. Pour donner aux briques la dureté nécessaire, elles étaient cuites.
Lors du chauffage, l'argile a commencé à fondre et à s'agglomérer ou à se frittér. La brique a ainsi acquis une couleur rouge.
