En 2021, la forêt de Soignes a été inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. En Europe, les forêts de hêtres font partie de notre patrimoine naturel, géographique et historique. Aujourd’hui, la forêt de hêtres en tant que forêt vierge se raréfie. Mais il fut un temps où l’Europe était richement couverte de ce type d’habitat. Afin de préserver ce morceau languissant du patrimoine européen, ils sont partis à la recherche de pièces uniques et originales de cette forêt de hêtres-forêt vierge. Une série de 78 forêts de hêtres en Europe a été sélectionnée. L’un d’eux dans la forêt de Soignes. Et plus précisément encore, la zone centrale que nous connaissons sous le nom de réserve forestière Joseph Zwaenepoel à Groenendaal .
