Il compte environ 60 000 habitants et correspond en grande partie au Pays d'Arlon.L’arrondissement fait partie de l’arrondissement judiciaire du Luxembourg.Selon des statistiques fiscales récentes, Arlon est l'arrondissement le plus riche de Belgique.
