Ypres est une ville de Belgique située en Région flamande, chef-lieu d'arrondissement en province de Flandre-Occidentale.Elle est située dans le nord-ouest de la Belgique dans la région du Westhoek. La ville compte 35 000 habitants, ce qui en fait la sixième ville de Flandre-Occidentale. Avec Lille et les villes de l'ancien bassin minier du Nord-Pas-de-Calais en France, elle participe aussi à un ensemble métropolitain de près de 3,8 millions d'habitants, appelé en France aire métropolitaine de Lille, s'organisant autour de l'Eurométropole Lille-Courtrai-Tournai.
