C’est le seul en Flandre, construit en 1862-1863, détruit en 1918 lors de la retraite des Allemands et rapidement réparé pour rendre la ligne de chemin de fer Oudenarde-Renaix-Leuze praticable à nouveau. Le tunnel ferroviaire a servi une nuit pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale d’abri pour Hitler dans son « train blindé ». Un jour d’hiver 1966, une section du Spichtenberg a glissé jusqu’à la voie ferrée, juste avant l’entrée du tunnel, interrompant la circulation ferroviaire à Audenarde-Renaix pendant plus d’un an.
