Arbre de justice isolé sur le plateau au nord du village, au lieu dit "campagne de la Justice", Il a ombragé la potence et abrité les colonies de corbeaux chargés de dépecer les cadavres des condamnés balancés au bout de la corde.(...) A Mélin, de ces arbres élus comme divinités, chez les Gaulois et les Germains, appropriées ensuite par la religion chrétienne pour chasser les ancIens cultes ,le tilleul de la 'Justice' est le seul arbre qui reste(...). Ces arbres signalaient aussi, au loin, les carrefours aux voyageurs.
