Ces deux anciennes bornes frontières marquent les limites de pouvoirs historiques qui ont maintenant disparu, à l'exception d'un, la Belgique. La borne plus petite porte le signe S.M. (Stavelot-Malmedy) et marquait jusqu'à la domination française à la fin du XVIIIe siècle la frontière entre les "Postelleries" de Stavelot et Malmedy. Les 'Postelleries' étaient d'anciens arrondissements judiciaires.
La plus grande pierre avec l'indication B.P. indiquait la frontière entre 1815 et 1919 entre ce qui était alors les Pays-Bas (aujourd'hui la Belgique, Stavelot) et la Prusse (aujourd'hui la Belgique, Malmedy).
