L'abbaye Notre-Dame d'Orval est un monastère cistercien situé en Belgique à Villers-devant-Orval dans la province de Luxembourg. Fondée par des bénédictins au XIe siècle, elle passe à l'ordre de Citeaux, en 1131, avec l'arrivée de moines de l'abbaye de Trois-Fontaines.Durant quatre siècles, Orval vit l'existence effacée d'un monastère perdu dans la solitude de la grande forêt ardennaise. En outre, située à la frontière entre le Saint-Empire et le royaume de France, Orval subit les conséquences des guerres et conflits du XVe au XVIIe siècle. L'abbaye traverse une crise d'ampleur liée au développement du Jansénisme en son sein au début du XVIIIe siècle, la crise éclatant au grand jour lorsqu'en 1713 Clément XI condamne cette doctrine.
