Herzogenbuchsee est une commune suisse du canton de Berne, située dans l'arrondissement administratif de Haute-Argovie.
Il y a dix mille ans, la région a été colonisée autour des lacs d'Inkwil et de Burgäschi. Des fondations des édifices romains de la période de 200 apr. J.-C. ont été découvertes à différents endroits autour de l'actuelle église réformée. La première mention du nom de puhsa , date de l'an 886 dans les écrits du monastère de Saint-Gall.
