Neuhausen est situé sur la rive droite du Rhin au sud-ouest de la ville de Schaffhouse. La commune suisse de Beringen se trouvent à sa limite est, Tandis que la ville allemande de Jestetten est à sa lisière sud, alors que sur la rive gauche du fleuve se trouve le canton de Zurich et la commune de Flurlingen. Elle possède en outre deux collines sur son territoire : Neuhauserwald et Engwald.
Un accident de train a eu lieu le 10 janvier 2013 faisant 17 blessés.
Selon l'Office fédéral de la statistique, Neuhausen am Rheinfall possède 10 512 habitants fin 2018. Sa densité de population atteint 1 314 hab./km².
