Tycho Brahe et Johannes Kepler fréquentaient le Château de Prague. L'Empereur Rudolf II qui vivait au Château de Prague, tenait ici ses étranges cours d'astrologues, de magiciens et d'autres figures inhabituellement étranges. Mais c'était une période prospère pour la ville. Après des désaccords avec le nouveau roi danois, Christian IV, en 1597, Tycho Brahe fut exilé et invité par le roi bohémien et Saint-Empire romain Rudolf II à Prague, où il devint l'astronome impérial officiel. Il construisit un observatoire à Benátky nad Jizerou. Là, de 1600 jusqu'à sa mort en 1601, il fut assisté par Johannes Kepler, qui utilisa plus tard les données astronomiques de Tycho pour développer ses trois lois du mouvement planétaire.
