Nordhausen est une ville allemande, située dans le Land de Thuringe. Une ancienne ville libre d'Empire, Nordhausen est le chef-lieu de l'arrondissement de Nordhausen.
La ville est située sur les cuestas du Trias inférieur au sud du massif de Harz, à une altitude de 180 à 260 mètres. Les rivières Zorge et Salza, des affluents de la Helme, traversent la zone urbaine. Avec une population d'environ 40 000 habitants, Nordhausen est la septième ville de Thuringe, après la capitale Erfurt , Iéna, Gera, Weimar, Gotha et Eisenach.
