Drangstedt est situé dans le triangle Elbe-Weser entre les villes de Bremerhaven, Cuxhaven et Bremervörde. La commune comprend une surface forestière de 6,34 km² ; attraction pour ceux qui cherchent des loisirs à proximité.
Le lieu et le nom Drang-Stede sont apparus entre 500 av. J.-C. et 300 av. J.-C. et devraient être attribués à un ancien abreuvoir pour le bétail. Les lieux situés sur la Geest ont reçu des noms se terminant par -stedt. Drangstedt a été mentionné pour la première fois dans les documents en 1312. Des preuves montrent que des humains vivent dans la commune depuis plus de 6000 ans. Les dolmens de Drangstedt se trouvent dans le Knüppelholz entre la L 120 et la ligne de chemin de fer. Environ 100 tumulus sont encore présents dans les environs, datant d'au moins 4000 ans. Au fil du temps, cependant, tous ont été ouverts et pillés.
