La commune de Dötlingen se situe dans la région du parc naturel de Wildeshauser Geest. La Hunte traverse la commune. Les plus grandes localités de la commune sont Aschenstedt, Brettorf, Dötlingen et Neerstedt. Le siège de l'administration communale est à Neerstedt.
La commune s'étend sur 10.184 ha, dont 2.185 ha de surface forestière, 6.642 ha de terres agricoles, 100 ha de surfaces aquatiques, 24 ha de friches, 725 ha de surfaces d'exploitation et de bâtiments, 425 ha de surfaces de routes et de chemins, 76 ha de surfaces de loisirs et 7 ha d'autres surfaces.
