La commune de Heinsen est une commune du district de Holzminden en Basse-Saxe. Elle fait partie de la communauté Samtgemeinde de Bodenwerder-Polle.
Heinsen est située sur l'Oberweser dans le Weserbergland. Depuis le Stollenberg, qui fait partie du territoire communal, plusieurs méandres de la Weser sont visibles. D'autres petites élévations aux alentours sont Waul, Wilmeröder Berg, Hopfenberg et Bruchholz. Non loin se trouve le Köterberg, qui est visible depuis le Stollenberg.
