Le Schlossberg est un rameau du Rosskopf. Il s'élève à 456 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer.
Le château était situé sur le Schlossberg à une hauteur de 376 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer autour de ce qui aujourd'hui est une élévation qui s'appelle Ludwigshöhe. C'est une élévation de quelques mètres formée sur décombres. Le nom Ludwigshöhe a été choisi en hommage au grand duc Ludwig II de Bade.
