Le monastère de Zoffingen est situé à Constance au bord du lac de Constance depuis le 13ème siècle. Il s’agit d’un couvent nommé d’après le scholaster de la cathédrale Burkhard von Zofingen.
L’origine du monastère remonte à une communauté béguine qui s’est déplacée de Wil à Constance près de la muraille de Niederburg avant 1257. Après avoir accepté la règle de saint Augustin du prince-évêque de Constance, Eberhard II de Waldbourg, le scolasse de la cathédrale de Zofingue donna aux sœurs sa cour de chanoine. Vers la fin du XIIIe siècle, la chapelle a été construite, qui était probablement dédiée à Sainte Catherine vers 1314.
