Les sculptures de Wilhelm Lehmbruck, dont le musée tire son nom, constituent une grande partie de sa collection. Cependant, le musée possède un nombre substantiel d'œuvres d'autres sculpteurs du 20e siècle, y compris Ernst Barlach, Käthe Kollwitz, Ludwig Kasper, Hermann Blumenthal, Alexander Archipenko, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Henri Laurens, Jacques Lipchitz, Alexander Rodtschenko, Laszlo Péri, Naum Gabo, Antoine Pevsner, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí et Max Ernst. Cela est complété par un nombre considérable de peintures d'artistes allemands des 19e et 20e siècles. Le musée fait circuler sa collection substantielle en réinstallant des œuvres chaque année.
