Hermsdorf/Spree est un village situé au sud de la commune de Lohsa. La Kleine Spree, un affluent de la Spree, traverse le village. Hermsdorf fait partie de la zone officielle de peuplement sorabe en Haute-Lusace.
Hermsdorf est entourée de grandes forêts contiguës, dont la Driewitz-Milkeler Heiden à l’est. Autour du village, il y a plusieurs étangs plus ou moins grands, qui sont presque tous utilisés pour la pisciculture. Le village le plus proche est Weißig à environ un kilomètre à l’ouest, Lippitsch au sud-est et Oppitz au sud. Le centre communautaire de Lohsa se trouve à neuf kilomètres. La route départementale 9220 traverse le village.
