Wissel est un quartier de la ville de Kalkar, située sur la rive gauche du bas Rhin. Il se trouve à environ cinq kilomètres au nord du centre-ville de Kalkar, dans la plaine alluviale du Rhin. Fin 2018, il comptait 2061 habitants.
La graphie « Wisceloh » est attestée au 12e siècle. Wisch signifie prairie, zone humide. Loh signifie buisson ou également clairière défrichée dans la forêt. Au 14e siècle, le nom du lieu a changé pour Wissel.
