Le château de Sønderborg est situé dans la ville de Sønderborg, au Danemark, sur l'île d'Als dans le Jutland du Sud. Il abrite un musée axé sur l'histoire et la culture de la région. Le château est situé au milieu de la ville, dans un parc surplombant le fjord d'Als. Le musée est ouvert toute l'année. Le château de Sønderborg a probablement commencé comme une tour fortifiée construite par Valdemar le Grand en 1158, édifiée sur un îlot dans le détroit d'Als qui a ensuite été relié à l'île d'Als. Comme il se trouve au sud de l'île d'Als, il a été nommé Sønderborg, ce qui signifie "forteresse du sud". Le château a été construit pour fournir une protection contre les attaques des slaves et faisait partie d'un système plus vaste de fortifications. Au fil des siècles, le château a progressivement été agrandi et reconstruit.
