Le château de l'impératrice Eugénie de Montijo situé à Arteaga est un palais néo-médiéval, dotée d'une tour néogothique comme donjon inspirée de l'architecture gothique française que le romantisme avait remis à la mode.
Le néogothique a récupéré du passé les arcs ogivaux, les gargouilles avec des figures d'animaux, ce qui est vains geminados et les éléments caractéristiques de l'architecture des châteaux médiévaux : les almenas, les merlones, les matacones, etc.
