La bataille de Sagrajas ou Zalaca, se déroule le 23 octobre 1086 entre les troupes du général almoravide Youssef Ibn Tachfin et celles du roi de Castille Alphonse VI. Cet épisode de la Reconquista voit la victoire des armées musulmanes maures.Le début du XIe siècle en Andalousie voit la fin des Omeyyades de Cordoue. La fin du règne d'Al-Hakam II en 976 est marquée par la mise sous tutelle par le hadjib Almanzor du nouveau calife, Hicham II. À la mort d'Almanzor, en 1002, s'ouvre une longue période de luttes internes pour le pouvoir qui aboutit à l'éclatement du califat en une multitude de petits royaumes plus ou moins indépendants.
