La sierra de Guadarrama est un massif montagneux d'Espagne, entre Ségovie et Madrid, près de Guadarrama.Le toponyme Guadarrama vient probablement de l'arabe Oued-er-rmel, fleuve des sables. C'est ainsi que se nommait anciennement le fleuve Manzanares qui naît dans ces montagnes. Il faut cependant attendre le XVIIIe siècle pour que le nom s'applique à l'ensemble du massif montagneux. Il était jusqu'alors plus courant de nommer l'endroit montes Carpetanos nom du peuple qui occupait la région il y a plus de 2 000 ans, les Carpétans.
