Mars est une commune française, située dans le département de l'Ardèche en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Elle s'appelait Saint-Romain-le-Désert jusqu'en 1909.Située sur le bord du Lignon, Mars est limitrophe avec le département de la Haute-Loire et notamment de la commune du Chambon-sur-Lignon. Son altitude moyenne est d'environ 1 020 mètres. Elle fait partie du plateau Vivarais-Lignon, plateau à forte identité protestante marqué par les guerres de religions.
