Vaulx-en-Velin est une commune française située dans la métropole de Lyon en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Située dans la banlieue est de Lyon, elle fait partie des communes dites de l'Est lyonnais, tout comme Bron ou Décines-Charpieu. Ses habitants sont appelés les Vaudais.La commune est située sur la rive gauche du Rhône, à 7,6 km à vol d'oiseau au nord-est du centre de Lyon et appartient à la première couronne de l'« Est lyonnais », ensemble de communes situées en banlieue est de Lyon.
